Thank you, from all us dogs!

The day after Hurricane Rina, we were making the rounds with Punta and stopped to see Alison Sawyer Current, aka The Dog Lady of Mexico. She was Punta's savior and guardian until she got a forever home with me. And I believe her when she says she loves each rescue dog forever. Look here!
Alison, who is working yet another spay and neuter clinic starting today, was talking about the continuous need for funding. She is planning a program for ongoing friends, something whereby you would pledge to give $10 or whatever a month and courage your friends to do so as we. Right then and there, I pledged $20.
It's such good work she does for the poor dogs here and over time I have seen a change in attitude in the kind of people who needed one.
So when this clinic is done, look for word from Alison about the sustaining program. Details will show up on IslaAnimals.org.
Oops, I'm slow. Here's a link to Alison's explanation and donation page!

Black and Tan

Yesterday wasn't all about me after all. It was all about Punta, the black and tan dog in my life. As she hits 16 months, she is almost mature. And on the anniversary of her adult vaccines, time to get re-vaccinated.
We were visiting on the roof with Cheri and Jim Krull of Chatauqua NY when I decided to see if Pepe Vega was really back in town.
Pepe was the vet who replaced Delfino Guevara for a time as the non-profit vet on the island. Then, Delfino came back and Pepe started managing a bevy of models in Monterrey. Yes, fashion models.
He's been doing a lot of work for Isla Animals and Alison Sawyer Current lately, so I picked up the cell to see when he'd been in town. "I'm here and can come over," he said.
Since finding Delfino is a bit hard at times, I was pleased to know that Pepe will be back with some regularity. Punta seemed to like him and not remember that he spayed her at 2 months when Alison came upon her and her sisters, now in Minnesota.
Pepe threw a ball with her for a while before getting down to business. A 5-in-1 vaccine, a tick shot and an oral anti-parasite dosing.
All those meds made her restless and whiny last night. Yes, she got into my bed twice. She was so miserable.
Today, all is well and she frolicked in the sea on her morning escorted rounds which started with a golf cart ride direct to her favorite swimming hole. If islanders want to reach Pepe, you can get his phone number by emailing me via zina(at)zinahouse.com or through Alison(at)Islaanimals.org
Delfino is still doing good work on the island and is still available. This is just for those who wanted a choice.

Dog Play Date

Sunday, my cousin Dianne and her husband Jeff and I went to visit Alison at Amigos Los Animales. She and her husband, Jeff had just sent 12 dogs to homes abroad. But then, Alison came home with 8 more.
The dogs need socializing to humans and with non-pack dogs. Boca rose to the occasion. She mouthed as puppies do when they play, but no one got bit and Boca couldn't seem to get enough doggie hugs.
After 90 minutes or so, Alison had to go upstairs to do a phone interview with a Denver radio station for her new book, "No Urn for the Ashes." And we went to Miguel's, so he could meet Lora's legacy. He approved of Boca dog, who ate garlic bread while we had grouper.
